It’s almost time for the big fundraising campaign. Segmentation will be a big part of the effort. Before you write the emails and letters and update the website, you will want to understand past donor data. How much people gave previously will impact how much the ask should be in the future.

So how will you calculate the results? Forget about messy spreadsheets and cross-referencing years of data. The easiest and fastest way to evaluate donors is with customizable rollups in the Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) with the Household Account Model.

What Are Customizable Rollups?

Customizable Rollups auto-summarize the values you need from several opportunity or payment records to the Contact or Account. Rollups come in two forms:

  • Aggregate—These rollups sum, average, or count data from multiple records and publish answers to a target field. For example, you might want to look at the total number of donations over $50. Also, when managing soft credits, such as donations given via Donor Advised Funds, where an organization other than the donor generates the check, you can roll up those soft credits to the Account.
  • Single-result operation—This type of rollup copies data from one field or record and posts it to another target field. It is ideal for highlighting important data, like the largest donation ever given.

A standard rollup for donors looks like this:

NPSP comes standard with nearly 90 out-of-the-box rollups. Having all this data at your fingertips is helpful. However, your organization probably relies on different or additional data. Customizable rollups allow you to define the fields and filters needed to summarize the data that matters most to you.

Why Are Customized Rollups a Galvin Favorite Function?

Here are the top three reasons why we recommend customized rollups:

  1. They do the math. Forget spreadsheets, equations, and pivot tables to produce donor reports. Once you set up the customized rollups, you can have contact and account giving information in a click—no calculator required. Now you can act faster on mission-critical items like donor engagement and fundraising based on the data.
  2. They can be specific to your organization or business needs. In addition to the great out-of-the-box rollups, you can create your own to present the data exactly how you’d like it. Need the summary for the last seven or eleven years? That’s not a problem. You can create rollups to calculate your specific filters in just a few clicks.
  3. They’re accessible where you need the data. View the data while speaking with donors within the record, personalize communications and merge them into emails, or access the data to analyze donor trends in reports and dashboards. Customized rollups provide many new possibilities for using the information.
