Come Out Into the Cold with Salesforce’s Winter ’13 Release – The Weather’s Fine…..
Now that the Salesforce Winter ’13 Release upgrades are ready to go, we are able to take full advantage of some of the wonderful new features that Salesforce has introduced in this release. As I poured over the 210 pages of Release notes for the past month or so, the feature that has generated the most excitement for our team is “Salesforce Touch”.
Salesforce Touch is a version of Salesforce design specifically for mobile devices (initially targeted for iPad) that provides real-time access to information. Unlike previous web-interfaces, the touch-screen interface is optimized for tablet-based devices and provides support for customizations, meaning that it’s more than just a generic interface for standard Salesforce features. If you or your team of Salesforce Consultants applies customizations to Salesforce, those customizations can be carried forward to the iPad interface!
Although Salesforce Touch is in its infancy, and the interface does not offer all of the features of the fully functional Salesforce interface, it is a wonderful step in the ‘mobile’ direction and demonstrates Salesforce’s commitment to the mobile platform
For those needing an even greater amount of flexibility, Salesforce has also provided a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Salesforce Touch. The SDK enables Salesforce Partners like Galvin to develop custom mobile apps using the Salesforce Touch framework. This offers an even broader spectrum of possibilities for Salesforce users with mobile solutions that were not available prior to the Winter ’13 release.
To say the least, our team has been impressed by what we’ve seen with the latest features coming from Salesforce. So, step into the cold with their Winter ’13 release – the weather’s fine.
