Salesforce Winter ’26 Release: What’s New for Nonprofits

GTI_Salesforce Winter '26 Release

The Salesforce Winter ’26 release is here and this one delivers meaningful upgrades nonprofits can put to work immediately. Volunteer Management takes center stage with new tools that make scheduling, matching, and day-to-day coordination faster and more intuitive. And across the platform, AI is starting to show its real potential—powering assessments, automating repetitive tasks, and surfacing insights that teams can use right away.

With practical enhancements across Nonprofit Cloud, Winter ’26 is part of Salesforce’s larger push to help organizations realize value faster through streamlined setup, guided experiences, and features designed for rapid adoption.

Let’s look at what’s new, with an eye toward what’s coming next.

Programs Suite

Participant Management Agent Template

When it comes to meeting your mission, more people and less paperwork sounds ideal, right? Salesforce research shows that 41% of time gets lost to repetitive, low-value tasks. New AI agents are here to help. Let them take on administrative tasks like creating benefits, updating goals, writing notes, or issuing outbound referrals. The agent uses natural language to drive its work as a valuable assistant. Let case managers focus on helping those in need while the AI agent performs the tedious, time-consuming tasks required.

AI Assessment Generation

Updating assessments or creating new ones is getting an AI boost as well. Previously, modifying an assessment meant copying and pasting questions or getting help from a Salesforce Admin. With this new feature, users can simply upload a PDF or DOCX-formatted file with the questions directly into Salesforce. Einstein converts it into questions that can be added to an existing assessment or set up as a new one in a fraction of the time. Turn on “Generative AI Assessment Questions” in settings to get started.

Intake Data Model

Tracking applications throughout the intake process has emerged as an important need, so Salesforce responded with a new data model. An Application Form Flexipage now serves as the single source of truth for tracking clients through the intake process and reporting on applications by stage. You can associate an action plan template with a program to define and customize what you want to track. Expect even more enhancements to the intake process in the next release.

Attendance Calculations

Maybe you want to tie benefit disbursements to attendance rates. That was challenging until now. With this new feature, users can easily assess engagement and adjust plans based on how often people are attending their scheduled sessions. New fields calculate attendance, absences, and participation rates and appear on the default page layout for program enrollment and benefit session. You can even add them to a list view for an at-a-glance option to see what’s working and where interventions are needed. Use the calculations to trigger disbursements, follow-ups, or other tasks accordingly.

Programs Suite Data Bundles

Mapping data is time-consuming and error-prone. Winter ’26 introduces a guided setup experience and pre-built data stream mappings to easily bring Program, Case, and Outcome data into Data Cloud. Rather than spending tons of time mapping objects, you can focus on the data points unique to your organization that need special attention without using a complicated manual configuration.

Volunteer Management

Salesforce GO

This Salesforce-wide initiative helps organizations access the platform’s value more quickly and Volunteer Management is the starting point for Nonprofit Cloud. Within Setup, navigate to Salesforce GO and search for Volunteer Management to access the quick start. Easily set up user access, locations, operating hours, and job position assignments and you’re ready to unleash the functionality.

Capacity and Coverage Agent

Salesforce is paying attention to the needs of volunteer managers in this release. Get ready to let agentic AI help with scheduling needs. This feature, currently in Beta, helps you identify shifts requiring additional staffing and works to find volunteer matches based on qualifications, location, and availability.

App and Homepage

Want one place to manage all volunteer activities? Now you have one with the new Volunteer Management app and homepage. Enable the new feature through the App Launcher to gain a one-stop shop for coordinating, tracking, and reporting on volunteer activities. View things like initiatives, job shifts, or assignments all from the homepage. Configure the page to display the information most useful for your team.

Volunteer Initiative Creation

Get ready for additional streamlined functionality when creating volunteer initiatives. This new feature uses workflows to create and coordinate volunteer programs easily. To get started, add related lists for job positions, job assignments, position shifts, and volunteer initiatives to the page layout, then edit the page to include actions for “Assign Volunteers” and “Find Volunteers.” Now simply follow the process to build out job positions and their qualifications. You can then create one-time or recurring shifts for each position.

Volunteer Assignment

Now with your positions created, it’s time to schedule volunteers. Winter ’26 introduces new functionality to assign volunteers to job positions. Once you choose the volunteer initiative, job position, and shift, you can search through potential volunteers and make the assignment or assign a person right from their account. From the Person Account, you can also view job assignments, competencies, and availability. Be aware that the search currently matches shift names only, and there is a 200-shift selection cap per assignment.

Volunteer Matching

You can easily assign volunteers and now you can find them too. Within the Volunteer Management app, go to the “Search Volunteers” tab. Define your volunteer criteria, such as qualifications, availability, or location. The platform offers appropriate search results. From there you can assign a volunteer. You can also export the results to a CSV file, which saves to the job position record. Note that for search results, the system returns results that are greater than or equal to the criteria, rather than exact matches only.

Fundraising and Advancement

Gift Entry Grid

This one may sound familiar. Salesforce’s previous release introduced the Gift Entry Grid, which was great for processing straightforward donations quickly on a single screen. However, entering details for more complex gifts required leaving the grid and using the less flexible Gift Entry Flow. Winter ’26 fixes this issue with fields for processing recurring commitments, designations, and soft credits all now available in the grid. As a bonus, the gift entry records you can view or create have doubled. More gifts, fewer clicks.

But wait, there’s more. Processing a large group of like gifts just got easier too. Gift Entry Grid now supports batch default values for every donation in the bunch to support quicker processing and better accuracy. The new batch default quick action allows you to enter values for nearly every field supported other than donors and gift commitments. Simply select the number of gifts and set the batch default values, such as date, campaign, and payment method. The grid populates the details so you can enter each person and amount, then process the entire batch.

Philanthropic Research App

This enhancement introduces multiple flexcards to visualize donor information. The first flexcard shows personal insights such as name, age, employer, and generational cohort. The second flexcard tracks research progression for the individual. The third flexcard monitors wealth indicators. There are also new fields for generative summaries informed by record details. This release also ushers in automation using the data processing engine. Now fundraisers can calculate LYBUNTS, SYBUNTS, and lapsed donors to act earlier.

Gift Planning Data Model

Flexcards also play an important role in the new Gift Planning app, which captures the full lifecycle of a gift from early planning to long-term stewardship in one place. The app includes four parts, starting with foundational items that address a gift’s concept and the planned amount. Financial modeling includes the present and future value forecast, gift performance and annuity rate, and actuarial calculations. Gift agreements visually represent the arrangement, contract, and compliance elements. Finally, stewardship tracks the activities and recognitions for the donor.

Additional Updates

Slack + Nonprofit Cloud

You have people working in Nonprofit Cloud. You have people working in Slack. Now everyone can work together regardless of their preferred platform or Salesforce license status. Winter ’26 brings with it one-to-one mapping between Salesforce records and Slack channels for a shared view of the customer. You can embed a Slack channel into a Salesforce record and benefit from real-time collaboration across platforms. This is a great enhancement for those long-term records that require ongoing communication or quick actions that need several people’s support.

The functionality goes a step further with unfurls. Now users can share a record in Slack and the unfurl provides a preview with details. Anyone can view the record and those with a Salesforce license can update the record directly from Slack. To enable this feature, follow the Guided Slack Setup and select which record pages or objects users can create a channel for.
